Interior wall Therapy…

We are still reminiscing over the inspiring trends showcased at Heimtex this year. Trends that turn our conventional way of thinking on its head.

Colour has the power to affect not only our moods and emotions, but also the ability to provoke our subconscious.

382552.jpg

Energize or calm, relax or stimulate, even anger or subdue.

382514.jpg

Contrary to what we have come to believe, it has been proven that blue can energize and red can have a calming effect.

375201.jpg

Implementing this new found realization into interiors, allows one to create energy-impactful spaces.

This Interior therapy gives designers the power to bring an energy balance to our over-stimulated lifestyles.

Keeping it simple with hues in multiple tones of the red and blue spectrums, allows one to relax or recharge.

Uncovering an Urban Oasis…

As far as trends go, uncovering the rising trend of an Urban Oasis is fascinating.

366104

We have an inherent connection to nature, yet we submerge ourselves in urban and digital lifestyles, removing ourselves further and further from natural habitats.

377015.jpg

Our personal and natural well-being is becoming increasing important in our lives. Designers are responding to this by creating concepts of an “Urban Oasis”.

PICTOXYSPHERE01.jpg

At the heart of this oasis is the calm refuge from hard, cold, industrial urban landscapes and a move to Green, restful colours used to replenish, nourish and energize our minds and bodies.

379006

Lush, tone-on-tone green hues are used to provide a healing, therapeutic and refreshing quality to spaces and products, while textural elements that replicate or mimic nature provide a rich, indulgent feel. Dark forest greens and sages are mixed with dusty roses to add warmth.

Perfect Imperfection – A trend of today…

During Haidee Kramer’s recent visit to the Heimtextil trade show in Frankfurt, some exciting trends were presented. Two trends really seemed to intertwine gracefully, namely, Atelier & Perfect Imperfection.

IMG-20180130-WA0016.jpg

The word atelier (French: [atəlje]) means a private workshop or studio of a professional artist where a principal master and a number of assistants, students, and apprentices can work together producing pieces of art or design. This return of artisanal and crafted design, ushers in a perfectly imperfect design direction.

IMG-20180130-WA0018.jpg

Revisiting the craft of indigo dyeing, designers are celebrating the imperfections and graduated hues that this deep inky blue dye has to offer. They are embracing age-old crafts and processes, and translating them into product for our times.

IMG-20180130-WA0027.jpg

The traditional Japanese philosophy of Wabisabi, is a world view centred on the acceptance of imperfection. The aesthetic is described as one of beauty that is ‘imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete’. This concept allows materials and products to ‘bear the marks of their making, embracing visible brushstrokes, stitching and joinery, a poetic documentation of their creation.’

IMG-20180130-WA0017.jpg

As an outward backlash to years of generic, overly mass-produced goods, we find this trend satisfyingly bringing meaning back into our interiors.

Fashionable decor

As we have seen time and time again, Decor takes loads of inspiration from the world of fashion.

Untitled-1

The inspiration for this wallpaper from Eijffinger is no different. The Burberry plaid is one of the most sought-after and iconic patterns in the world and has inspired this sophisticated and fashionable stripe wallpaper from Eijffinger’s latest Stripes + collection.

There is no imitating the authentic style of the Burberry plaid, but Eijffinger has definitely provided home owners and decorators with a fashionable decor option.
