Uncovering an Urban Oasis…

As far as trends go, uncovering the rising trend of an Urban Oasis is fascinating.

366104

We have an inherent connection to nature, yet we submerge ourselves in urban and digital lifestyles, removing ourselves further and further from natural habitats.

377015.jpg

Our personal and natural well-being is becoming increasing important in our lives. Designers are responding to this by creating concepts of an “Urban Oasis”.

PICTOXYSPHERE01.jpg

At the heart of this oasis is the calm refuge from hard, cold, industrial urban landscapes and a move to Green, restful colours used to replenish, nourish and energize our minds and bodies.

Lush, tone-on-tone green hues are used to provide a healing, therapeutic and refreshing quality to spaces and products, while textural elements that replicate or mimic nature provide a rich, indulgent feel. Dark forest greens and sages are mixed with dusty roses to add warmth.

Uncovering an Urban Oasis…

Perfect Imperfection – A trend of today…

During Haidee Kramer’s recent visit to the Heimtextil trade show in Frankfurt, some exciting trends were presented. Two trends really seemed to intertwine gracefully, namely, Atelier & Perfect Imperfection.

IMG-20180130-WA0016.jpg

The word atelier (French: [atəlje]) means a private workshop or studio of a professional artist where a principal master and a number of assistants, students, and apprentices can work together producing pieces of art or design. This return of artisanal and crafted design, ushers in a perfectly imperfect design direction.

IMG-20180130-WA0018.jpg

Revisiting the craft of indigo dyeing, designers are celebrating the imperfections and graduated hues that this deep inky blue dye has to offer. They are embracing age-old crafts and processes, and translating them into product for our times.

IMG-20180130-WA0027.jpg

The traditional Japanese philosophy of Wabisabi, is a world view centred on the acceptance of imperfection. The aesthetic is described as one of beauty that is ‘imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete’. This concept allows materials and products to ‘bear the marks of their making, embracing visible brushstrokes, stitching and joinery, a poetic documentation of their creation.’

IMG-20180130-WA0017.jpg

As an outward backlash to years of generic, overly mass-produced goods, we find this trend satisfyingly bringing meaning back into our interiors.

Ethnic Chic is about authenticity

Ethnic doesn’t necessarily mean traditional. It is design that is inspired by authenticity and creating contemporary designs.

376021

The designers of the Siroc Collection from Eijffinger collected moodboards with various themes in fashion and interior showing African designs. Having especially selected warm tones from several fantastic photo shoots, the sand of the Sahara desert, baskets made of natural materials, the Nomads wandering in the desert and modern designs from the North-African markets.

Capture376090

Last but not least, the beautiful textile African designs inspired them to create an overwhelming flower pattern. The final result shows an ethnic chic collection with a touch of Africa with beautiful warm colors.

376095

Beautiful tangible patterns like natural grass cloth, a stripe reminiscent of a Berber carpet, bohemian flowers, a labyrinthine design and a block pattern with the appearance of a woven fabric.

376043_A

The subtly shining patterns contrast beautifully against the designs with the appearance of clay walls . From mahogany and aubergine to Mombasa brown, turquoise, terracotta and from indigo to Sahara sand, gray clay and ivory.

An intense and vibrant collection, full of indigenous inspiration. Siroc adds an ethnic chic touch to your home.

The creative exploration and mixing of 2 elements to create design and colour takes us back to Haidee Kramer’s (Founder of Dreamweaver Studios) college days where she created marble-like designs using the effects of paint and oil on water. This exact experiment can be seen today on the unmistakable Dreamweaver Studios Logo.

Today we see this same technique used in the quirky and trendy Dutch wallpaper company Eijffinger’ s (exclusive to Dreamweaver Studios in South Africa) new Reflect Collection.

These fluid and elegant designs are mesmerizing. Reflecting colour, combining matt and metallic finishes with textures. A technique and design that has definitely come full circle as trends do.

Dreams & adventures for kids…

Kids are creatures of imagination, happy thoughts and mischief. They possess a spirit of adventure that is so easily forgotten as they grow older.

We love the idea of creating spaces for them, inside their home and outside, that capture their interest and curiosity, and encourages them to be little adventurers.

From young world adventures to strong willed teenagers, the principle is the same. We want to keep them young at heart.

Kids decor has therefore never been easier. Dutch wallpaper company Eijffinger’s, Hits   4 Kids collection, gives you a backdrop to a fantasy world perfect for conjuring up stories. Walls that ignite images of monkeys swinging through the tropical rainforest, giraffes trotting jauntily over vast African plains. A curious owl turning its head, hidden deeply in the forest.

Dreams of being a ballerina, a world traveler, a farmer or even a pirate. Create a space to indulge in possibilties.
