Marimekko is a Finnish design house celebrated worldwide for its original prints and colours. Founded by Armi Ratia in 1951, Marimekko is said to be one of the world’s first real lifestyle brands combining fashion and home decoration into one
unique point of view.
Powerful iconic designs like Unikko, Kippis, Boo boo, together with newest designs by Carina Seth Andersson and Maija Louekari. Applying a unique taste and high-quality wallcoverings which bring joy to our everyday lives through bold prints and colours.
Marimekko is about living, not pretending; about understanding and accepting the beauty of life just as we encounter it every day.
Priding themselves in fostering a carefree environment where their talented designers and craftsmen are guided, inspired and encouraged to truly express themselves and design products that have an authentic, living soul.
A team of talented designers, each with a distinct, personal style, are spreading happiness through their designs. Young designers grow to become the Marimekko masters of tomorrow.
Designers like Maija Louekari, a Helsinki-based freelance illustrator and designer, started her career in 2003 when she won a design competition co-organised by Marimekko and the University of Art and Design Helsinki. Her winning design, the Räsymatto pattern, is now available in Marimekko’s wallcoverings collection.
“Marimekko is not about trendy fashion, with a few minor exceptions. We make lasting and timeless products. Timelessness may, however, occasionally come into fashion by chance, like now.” Armi Ratia, 1978.
